TELLING LINES in Lappeenranta

We are very glad to present eight young artists from Slovakia working primarily in the media of drawing at the exhibition Telling Lines in the Lappeenranta Art Museum. As curators of this exhibition and editors of Magazine X we try to provide a current picture of what is drawing nowadays and how it is expanding its field.

There is no doubt drawing plays an important role not only in visual arts, but also in the human history and culture. It surveys stories and thoughts of an individual and reflects society - such as drawings on the Astuvansalmi rock (our team went for a one day trip there during our stay in Finland), which were made five thousand years ago and they last until today to let us learn about history.

In Telling Lines we show works from Svetlana Fialová, Boris Sirka, Monika Pascoe Mikyšková, Ivana Šáteková, Rastislav Podhorský, Daniela Krajčová, Jarmila Mitríková and David Demjanovič, which are differently related to drawing. They use it as a recording or social communitacion
tool,  by their hands it is expanded into painting, comic art, sculpture, it is used as a representation of an attitude or opinion.

We are very grateful for all the help provided from the stuff from the museum and their nice welcoming, it was such a pleasure to meet Mikko Pirinen and every person in the museum. Also we would like to thank Andrea Ďurianová, our exhibition designer, for helping us building the show.
